Children's Literacy Project:
Volunteers from our club meet with children every week at two nearby schools to help teach them to read or help them improve their reading skills.
Union Avenue School is a very large elementary school that only achieves minimum levels of improvement in terms of student performance - as determined by the State of California.
Madison Avenue Elementary is a medium-size elementary school that is part of the Pasadena Unified School District. It is located at Los Robles boulevard and Ashtabula street. The school mission is to improve student achievement, strengthen parental community involvement and maintain a safe and clean environment.
Our Literacy Program provides tutoring to children in the second grades at both schools, assists with special holiday events and also provides books to the Union Avenue and Madison Avenue school libraries and new dictionaries to the third graders.
In the spring, we award trophies to the Best Readers & Certificates to the Most Improved.
